Length measures how long something is. Here are the most important conversions to remember:
1 foot = 12 inches
A ruler is 1 foot long
1 yard = 3 feet
About the length of a big step
1 meter = 100 cm
A little longer than a yard
1 km = 1000 meters
About 10 city blocks
💡 Remember: To convert to smaller units, multiply. To convert to larger units, divide!
Convert 4 feet to inches:
4 ft × 12 in/ft = 48 inches
Think: 4 groups of 12 inches each
Check: 48 ÷ 12 = 4 feet ✓
Use inches for small things (pencil), feet for medium things (door), yards for large things (football field), miles for very long distances!
