3 hours: 40 MCQs in 90 min (50%), then 90 min of free response — five questions scored 0-4 (7.5% each) and the investigative task, also 0-4 but weighted 12.5%. Worked example: 28/40 MCQ, 12/20 on FRQ 1-5, 2/4 on the task → composite = 35.0 + 22.5 + 6.25 = 63.75% ≈ a 5, just over the estimated line. Notice the task's leverage: dropping from 2/4 to 0/4 alone would fall to 57.5% — a 4 — while dropping two MCQs costs only 2.5 points.
AP Stats readers grade justification, not arithmetic. “Context, condition, conclusion” is the rubric skeleton: a hypothesis test answer must name the test, verify conditions (randomness, normality, independence), and state the conclusion in context with the p-value comparison.
