What is the USMC CFT?

The Combat Fitness Test (CFT) is an annual fitness assessment for all Marines, designed to evaluate combat readiness through functional, combat-related exercises.

CFT Events:

  • Movement to Contact (MTC): 880-yard sprint simulating rapid movement to engage the enemy
  • Ammunition Lift (AL): Lifting a 30-lb ammunition can overhead as many times as possible in 2 minutes
  • Maneuver Under Fire (MUF): 300-yard combat course including casualty carries, ammo resupply, and grenade throws

CFT vs PFT: While the PFT measures general fitness, the CFT specifically tests combat-related physical abilities.

CFT Scoring Standards

Classification Levels:

  • First Class: 275-300 points (Superior)
  • Second Class: 225-274 points (Good)
  • Third Class: 120-224 points (Minimum)
  • Failure: Below 120 or <40 on any event

Important: Marines must score at least 40 points on EACH event to pass, regardless of total score.

Age Adjustments:

Scoring standards are adjusted by age group (17-20, 21-25, 26-30, etc.) with slightly relaxed requirements for older Marines.
