3 hours (format revised in 2025): 40 MCQs in 80 min (50%), then 4 FRQs in 100 min (50%) — mathematical routines, translation between representations, experimental design, and qualitative/quantitative translation. Worked example: 28/40 MCQ (70%) with 65% of FRQ points → composite = 35.0 + 32.5 = 67.5% ≈ a 4, just under the estimated 5 line — a single FRQ part (typically the experimental-design procedure point) away. Note that pre-2025 practice exams used 50 MCQs including multi-select; score them separately rather than mixing formats.
Physics 1 grades explanations. The classic point-loser: computing a correct answer, then failing the “justify your answer” part that asks why — the rubric wants an argument from a symbolic equation, not a restatement of the number.
